This May 1- 8, 2010, Cebu embarks on a new celebration that aims to draw in once again on domestic and foreign tourism.

The CEBU FEST hosts a diverse and exciting lineup of activities that will be held at the new South Reclaimed Properties (SRP) of the city of Cebu.

The CEBU FEST will host a series of sports events such as : Motocross, Kart race, Cock Derby, Drag Race, Flag Football, Softball and baseball matches, Soccer, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Touch Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee and a sundown marathon.

The CEBU FEST will hosts a series of social activities such as: nightly variety shows and concerts, night bazaars, food bazaars, an agricultural – agro fair, an auto show and more.

The CEBU FEST is also venue to Cebu’s attempt to the Guinness World Record on the most number of rockets ( fireworks) fired in one time. Scheduled for May 8, one hundred twenty thousand rockets will blast off at the SRP grounds. And to top off the CEBU FEST activities, a grand fireworks show will be held on May 8 at the SRP grounds.

The CEBU FEST is expected to draw a big crowd of participants, contenders and spectators.

Great Lapu-Lapu Run to use timing chips for 21K, 10K races; winners to be sent to Hong Kong

Organizers of the Great Lapu-Lapu Run will be using timing chips for the 21K and 10K races that will be held in Lapu-Lapu City on April 18. The run will also have 5K and 3K races but only 21K and 10K participants will use the timing chips.

The race is organized by the Lapu-Lapu City Government and the Lapu Lapu City Tourism Cultural and Historical Commission.

This unique eight kilometer run, which will start at The Outpost in Nivel Hills and end at the Zipline in Busay, Cebu City, promises to give runners a picturesque view of Busay and afford participants a breathtaking vista of Metro Cebu.

Isuzu Treasure Quest 5: the aftermath

Without a doubt, the participants for this year’s ISUZU-SUNSTAR treasure quest were baffled with farfetched clues. Other teams were led to unlikely pit stops (bridging the islands… err… ice age?) although some teams were able to decipher the next clue effortlessly and completed the task as expected (just get a bull’s eye and were off… what the…).

Enthused:

Confronted with easy, average, and gruelling (?) tasks, each team, lucky enough to crack the clue for the next pit stop, were able to experience a mix of stimulating, thought-provoking, arduous and nauseating or depending-on-the-challengers’-appetite tasks and consequences (Can I get another spoon of frog legs please?).

Team work:

The main course of the event is to test each participating teams’ ability and not just how fast they can go to the next pit stop (Come to think of it, should they not possess an ability to crack codes, THEN WHAT ARE THEY SPEEDING UP FOR?!?!?!). It is not just a matter of completing the task beforehand, but knowing how you respect each member’s ideas, suggestions and decided at your team’s risk without regrets and pinpointing (You said it’s in there! No, I said it’s there somewhere!).

Take for instance leading your team to go halfway around Metropolitan Cebu(I remembered the task from Lapu-lapu going to Talisay), cross the sea, face the heavy traffic and finish all the challenges within an hour before running overtime, or go back right away to the final stop and decide not to finish so as not to be disqualified (We have 15 minutes more, how long would it take before we run overtime? We’re in the middle of nowhere! How long would it take you to realize that were lost?!?!?).

This is the happy, sad, sadder, and tsk tsk portion of the event- the Awarding Ceremony. At the start of the minor prize awarding, we thought it was a good start to titter and smile confidently to other participants like we never thought of winning at all (Oh hi! Were you able to finish the race? Nop, nobody did. Ahh I see… great… great… *chuckle*). The thought that nobody completed the race this time (well, not for some who went overtime, and overtime means automatic disqualification), contestants were having a hard time, probably searching from one pit stop after the other since it is the first time they expanded to different location of the metropolitan.

Of course, the story of sarcastic guffaw and crossed fingers did not end there yet. Right after the minor prizes had been awarded to the winning teams (allow me to emphasize MINOR award… how much does an IPOD SHUFFLE cost? Four of it?), we are in the hypothetical assumption stage driven by our illusion to have apparently been motivated by volition through our minds’ theoretical notion. We had a tie with the 3rd placer and technically ended up 4th due to a huge time difference.

The event was held last June 7 and kicked off at PAREF Springdale school campus. It was participated with 26 teams including the GOTO Kids who won 1st place for this year.
